    Rick Hendrick, Call Your Office...

When Rick Hendrick purchased the very first C8 Corvette for $3 million in January 2020, he famously quipped that he’ll never drive it.

Now his dealership in Atlanta, the Number 8 Corvette dealership in the country, is ensuring that some of their customers will never drive the new 2023 Corvette Z06 when it goes on sale in the summer of 2022.

Check out this email from the Rick Hendrick Chevrolet Duluth dealership to a customer on the Corvette Forum who was assured in writing in October 2020 that his only dealer markup fee on the 2023 Corvette Z06 would be a “$749 dealer administration charge.”

Instead, just 13 months later, he is being offered the mandatory option to take an “accessory package” that costs $13,000.

Are we going to watch a great Corvette enthusiast and friend to the Corvette team spend millions of dollars to own the very first 2023 Corvette Z06 at Barrett-Jackson in January, knowing that his dealership in Atlanta is gouging customers who were promised MSRP pricing over a year ago?

It really leaves a bad impression in our opinion…

Is City Chevrolet marking up Z06s? How about any of the other Hendrick Chevy dealerships?

Here is the email from the CorvetteForum.com:

Subject: RE:Re: Re: RE: C8 Z06 dealer tours news & do you still take deposits for the C8 Z06?

Our dealership will be requiring an accessory package with each of our Corvette orders, will include items such as paint protection film, ceramic coating, window tint and a few other items

Total cost for it will likely be ~$13,000

    Best,
    Justin Cochran

No worries! We have a dealer administration charge of $749.

Demand for the new Corvette Z06 is such that shitty dealership practices like this will go unpunished because these cars will be going for $20K over the purchase price on the secondary market anyway. But you can at least hit the dealer in the end with a 1-star rating on their dealership surveys that follow the sale, especially if they promised you MSRP IN WRITING.

We might expect these games from a Joe Schmoe dealership, but a Hendrick dealership pulling this crap? Seriously, screw these dealers…

    UPDATE
Check out this great response from the Hendrick customer who is now saying the dealership’s management has reached out to him and will be making everything right:

WOW, Keith and dear fellow members, thank you for all of your posts and actions!
I’ve just got off the phone with the General Manager from Rick Hendrick in Duluth, GA where I made my deposit in 2020, and I was informed that there was a little mistake and miscommunication from their end.
Because I made my deposit so long in advance, I was grandfathered in for no extra charges, so no, the $13K will not apply to my allocation.
Not sure if that $13K package fee will apply to anybody else that made a deposit recently, or if it is something that is going to be implemented and communicated to all new deposits from a certain date, but I wanted to share right away what I’ve just learned.
Thank you again awesome Corvette Forum Community and best wishes to all!
    Happy Holidays!

  • Kansas Highway Patrol Seizes 1959 Corvette from ‘Innocent Owner’ and Now Wants to Destroy It

Kansas Highway Patrol Seizes 1959 Corvette from 'Innocent Owner' and Now Wants to Destroy It

When Richard Martinez bought a 1959 Corvette for $50,000 from an Indiana dealer in 2016, the Kansas man didn’t realize he still wouldn’t have possession of the vehicle five years later.

After buying the car, Martinez took it to a Kansas Highway Patrol station for a mandated inspection, but the KHP seized his classic Corvette because of vehicle identification number issues, including an issue with a VIN plate located in a non-public, “secret” location visible to the KHP only by looking under the car with a mirror.

The government concedes Martinez did nothing wrong, that he “was not aware of the [VIN] issues and defects,” and that there is “no question” he is “an innocent owner.” Instead of returning the car, though, the government has spent years trying to destroy it.

That’s where the Kansas Justice Institute, a non-profit, public-interest litigation firm committed to defending against government overreach and abuse, stepped in.

A trial in the case Kansas Highway Patrol v. 1959 Chevrolet Corvette started before a court instead of a jury on July 21, and KHI subsequently filed an amicus brief on Aug. 18 in the District Court of Johnson County, urging the court to protect the private property rights of a vehicle owner, someone recognized by the KHP as innocent.

“Asset forfeiture is when the government takes a person’s property without a criminal conviction. In some cases, the person is never even charged with a crime, as was the case with Mr. Martinez,” KJI Litigation Director Sam MacRoberts said.

MacRoberts says asset forfeiture is bad enough, “but it’s especially bad in this case because the government admits Mr. Martinez did nothing wrong.”

Even though the KHP acknowledges Martinez’s innocence, they still argue that the Corvette must be taken from him as “contraband,” based on Kansas laws.

“When the government knows someone is innocent, they shouldn’t use their power and resources to take their property. Kansas’ forfeiture laws are to blame. The United States and Kansas Constitutions do not permit the government to acknowledge a person’s innocence, on the one hand, and then with the other, declare the innocent person’s property ‘contraband’ and take it,” MacRoberts said.

The Kansas laws to which he refers say that every motor vehicle with a VIN that has been destroyed, removed, abused, or defaced is automatically deemed contraband and subject to forfeiture.

“The government should not get to destroy an innocent person’s car,” MacRoberts said.

In the brief, the KJI pointed out a warning to Congress from former U.S. Representative Henry Hyde that “our civil asset-forfeiture laws are being used in terribly unjust ways,” that Representative Deborah Pryce of Ohio “recognized that civil asset forfeiture laws, at their core, deny basic due process, and the American people have reason to be offended and concerned by the abuse,” and that in recent decades civil forfeiture has “become widespread and highly profitable,” with the practice becoming “a veritable addiction for federal, state, and local officials across the country.”

In 1955, Malcolm became a Chevrolet dealer, and for almost 30 years (1964-1994) Malcolm Konner Chevrolet sold more Corvettes than anyone else in the world. This Commemorative Edition Corvette recognized that accomplishment, and it represents the one and only time GM honored a dealer in this way. “ Only fifty (50) 1986 Malcolm Konner Commemorative Edition Corvettes produced by Chevrolet. (Yes, it’s even listed in the Corvette Black Book)

I have a ton of Corvette memorabilia and all 50 Original window stickers for this special edition Corvette. My plan is to complete a registry for all 50 MK Commemorative 1986 Corvettes! Do you or someone you know own one of these special editions? Send me a PM please with your vin# etc.

  • 2022 Corvette Prices Increased for the Z51 Performance Package, Front Lift, and Destination Fees

2022 Corvette Prices Increased for the Z51 Performance Package, Front Lift, and Destination Fees

We wrote earlier this week that dealers can now start submitting preliminary order requests into the GM workbench order system but that pricing wasn’t available yet. Chevy must have heard our call as our friends at the Corvette Action Center are sharing these screens from GM’s ordering system that are now showing some pricing for select options.

Unfortunately, the bottom line is that your price for ordering a 2022 Corvette may cost more than the $1,200 increase that Chevy announced last month depending on options and equipment.

Chevrolet had already announced the $1,200 price increase for the three trim levels on the 2022 model year Corvette, and we learned today that it was the trim groups that were raised by $1,000 and the mandatory destination charge of $1,095 was increased by $200, so that’s how the 2022 Corvettes are going up by $1,200 for everyone. We wanted to see those numbers so here is how they look. The first price is the current 2021 MSRP that includes the $1,095 destination charge for each trim level and body style with the second number showing the $1,200 price increase:

2021 Price vs 2022 Price with destination fees included

    • $60,995 – 1LT Coupe – $62,195
    • $68,295 – 2LT Coupe – $69,495
    • $72,945 – 3LT Coupe – $74,145
    • $68,495 – 1LT Convertible – $69,695
    • $75,295 – 2LT Convertible – $76,495
    • $79,945 – 3LT Convertible – $81,145

As we read through the order sheets, we note that the Z51 Performance Package has been increased from $5,995 to $6,345. Nearly 70% of Corvettes are ordered with the Z51 Performance Package so this one will be hitting a majority of buyers as well. Another popular option is the E60 Front End Lift. This option is now priced at $2,260, an increase of $860 more than the $1,400 when it was offered on the 2020 model. The Black Trident Wheels have been increased by $100 to $2,995 and the High Wing also saw an increase of $100 to $1,250.

As far as the new content for 2022 goes, there is just the low profile spoiler (TVS) which is offered for $595. While the pricing isn’t coming up on the order system, the IMSA GTLM Championship special edition package will add $6,595 to the price of a 3LT Corvette with Z51.

Finally, we note that one option appears to have been discounted. The 5VM ground effects package was initially priced at $4,895 and we now see it priced at $4,445.

Check out these screens below which show the options and pricing based on the 3LT trim package for Coupe. You can see the Convertible pricing sheets here.

[VIDEO] Doug Collins Snags Two One-Owner Corvettes With Great Backstories

You’ve got to spare 35 minutes out of your day and watch this video posted by Dennis Collins on his YouTube Channel, Coffee Walk.

In his latest post, Collins and his two kids, Alex and Kelsey, head out to a longtime friend’s house where they wind up buying a trifecta of vehicles from Frank Marino – a 1967 Marina Blue Corvette convertible with factory air, a 1969 white Corvette convertible, and a nice low-mileage white H2 Hummer.

What makes the Corvettes so special is that they’re still considered one-owner vehicles, with Marino never having transferred the titles from the original purchaser.

“We both sold and traded cars back and forth,” Dennis recalls of their relationship, “and he called me this week and said, hey, I am about to retire, and I am going to my ranch, so I’ve got two special Corvettes, and one of them I bought from you, but I don’t remember when.”

    TITLE

Actually, the ’69 exchanged hands between the two men 28 years ago and has remained in top-notch condition ever since, even cranking up without a struggle when Kelsey drove it onto their enclosed trailer after the deal has been sealed.

But it’s the ’67 that is the real star of this video. Be sure to watch the whole post to see Frank’s moving story about how he got the car up and running again so the original owner could ride in it before he passed away from complications due to Agent Orange exposure. After his death about a year later, the owner’s wife showed some pretty slick negotiating skills to sell the car to Marino.

When Collins bought it, the car was covered in dust and had a few bad places in the paint on the driver’s side and a slight separation in the driver’s seat, but remains in remarkably good survivor condition overall, especially the undercarriage that was immaculate for a 54-year-old car. It’s also one of just 3,788 Sting Rays equipped with air conditioning out of a total production run of 22,940 units that year.

    TITLE

Collins & Family head to Marino’s service station, a fixture in Texas for about decades, where they pick up tons of original documentation about the ’67, along with the original well-worn spare tire!

Once they arrive back at their facility, the Collinses continue to be impressed with the ’67.

“What a cool car,” Dennis says. “It’s always nice when the car gets back to the shop and the story gets better instead of getting worse – so this is one of those kind of cars. The longer you look at it, the longer I look at it, the happier I am I bought it. A lot of times you get one back, whoo, why did I buy that?”

~Al and Andrea F. of Macungie, Pennsylvania shared the task of special ordering this stunning hardtop Convertible 2020 Corvette Z51. Delivered on the 19th and it could not be owned by two finer people. Rapid Blue paint with the Tension Blue/Twilight Blue dipped interior truly matches up perfectly. Fully loaded with 3LT pkg, personalized plaque, CF painted top and nacelles, body-color accents, front lift, CF instrument cluster, magnetic ride, spectra gray wheels, and CF painted mirrors and spoiler. Check it out at the Carlisle Event in PA next week. Guaranteed Perma grin will be on the faces of Al and Andrea! ZORAPID CHASE THE CLOUDS AWAY ~Louie U. of Ortley Beach, New Jersey got dropped off Tuesday at 9 am sharp to take delivery of a new Blade Silver 2020 Corvette Stingray coupe. Enthusiasm was off the charts and deservingly so! Equipment list: Transparent top, 1LT pkg, performance exhaust, spectra gray wheels, splash guards and CF painted mirrors. Louie had our Service dept install the GM carbon flash painted ground effects pkg. ~Tom and Susan M. of Danville, Kentucky was referred to me by a mutual friend named Steve Hill also from Kentucky. Tom has a C7 ZR1 in the garage and waited patiently to add his new Torch Red 2020 Z51 coupe. I had it drop-shipped for courtesy delivery to his local Chevrolet dealer in Nicholasville, Kentucky just like I did with Steve’s C8 in June. This past week he picked up his new Corvette and I look forward to his driving review. The Adrenaline Red GT2 interior really pops. I must have delivered at least a dozen Kentucky resident’s new C8’s since March and plenty more to go. ~Chuck and Michele S. of Newark, Maryland were referred to me by my brother in law about getting just the right Corvette. Today they traded their 2008 Corvette convertible with manual transmission for a 7,000 mile 2014 Corvette Convertible with 7-speed manual transmission and the Competition seats. This Corvette pops in Arctic White with Black interior, top, and wheels, especially with CF black mirrors/spoiler. Chuck and Michele will have a smooth 3-hour ride home. * The Frank Class Corvette Barn find, throwback and cool picture section…post up your favorite picture this week. Have a great week. >> I will be out of the office August 26th-30th <<

[VIDEO] Corvette Assembly Plant Running One Week Ahead of Target Production

Our friend Morgan Crosbie who is a Chevy sales rep at Ontario’s Finch Chevrolet has a new video up on his Cars and Crosbie YouTube Channel today and while the main thrust is to offer a comparison of the 2020 Corvette 1LT vs his personal loaded 3LT Z51 Coupe. But before he gets into that, he offers some much welcome updates on the production of his customer cars at the Corvette Assembly Plant.

Morgan tells is that the 1LT Coupe behind him is VIN 3963 and it was produced some two weeks ago. With the quality control holds shortened now, Morgan says he is happy to see many of the details have been fine-tuned and that they are ironing out some of the kinks as had been reported previously.

He is also very excited as his customer cars that had a Target Production Week (TPW) of July 13 have already been produced, which means that the Assembly Plant is running a a week ahead of schedule in terms of producing the vehicles they determined were going to be produced at a later date. As a representative of Chevrolet, he is happy to be able to report to his customers that their cars were already built.

From there, Morgan offers a walk-around of the 1LT car which he calls a “stylish cruiser” as it doesn’t have the Z51 option. In fact, the Arctic White Stingray has just two options, the Sterling Silver Trident wheels and the NPP Performance exhaust. He also calls the Arctic White a “value” color as there is no upcharge for the paint.

Morgan also points out the fact that the non-Z51 cars come with the Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tires which he says will be more durable and should last longer than the Pilot Sport 4S summer tires found on the Z51 models.

The Chevy sales rep is also quick to point out that for customers who do get the base model, you are no way making any a sacrifices that are too monumental for you to think that its a different vehicle from the upper-level trim and performance models that are being tested by the auto magazines and tv shows. During his walk-around, he points out many of the value details that don’t detract from the Corvette ownership experience.

As always, Morgan offers a solid review so check out the full video if you are looking to build you own “value cruiser.”

From Cars and Crosbie via YouTube:

In this episode I show you the value that you get in a base model Corvette and why it is important to have a corvette specialist to help you design and order your Corvette.
