    [VIDEO] Stolen C8 Corvette Crashes During Pursuit in Midtown Detroit

    We’ve been telling you for a long time that the new mid-engine Corvette is one hot automobile.

    Of course, we were referring to its ranking as the fastest-selling vehicle in America for several months running.

    Now, though, this black 2021 Stingray is one hot automobile in another way: the Detroit Regional Communication Center received a call from OnStar at 10:10 a.m. today (July 15) reporting it stolen with no license plate from a dealer lot in Novi, Michigan, a northern suburb of Detroit.

    On the bright side, the car was quickly recovered, but not before a high-speed chase ended with the Corvette badly damaged in a crash.

    With OnStar providing updates on the car’s location, Michigan State Police were able to locate it near the intersection of Gratiot Avenue and Outer Drive in Detroit at 10:35 a.m.

    After turning onto the I-75 Service Drive from Warren Avenue, the suspects sideswiped a van, bounced off it, and then crashed into several parked vehicles on Chrysler Avenue. Video from a local news crew shows the Corvette suffered major damage to the passenger side front, with the front tire resting on the asphalt several feet away.

    Two people exited the car after the crash and fled on foot, but they were quickly apprehended by MSP and Detroit police officers and taken to Detroit Detention Center.

    Police said no one was injured in the incident.

    [ACCIDENT] How Did This C7 Corvette End Up In a Tree?

    We’ve covered a ton of Corvette accidents over the years and sometimes you look at these aftermath photos and wonder just what the heck happened to have the car end up the way it did.

    Take for example this unlucky new owner who we are told just picked up the C7 Corvette hours before he parked it sideways on a tree.

    We caught these crash photos from a member of the Corvette Forum whose house was just minutes away from where the accident occurred. We’ll let TeddyCa tell us what exactly he saw when he rode upon the scene.

    Yesterday afternoon my son calls me and says “Damn dad did you hear that? Some dude just climbed a tree with his C7”. I heard something but we live in the country and a roundabout is behind us which means people need to know how to drive and run into one another every week so I ignore the sounds lol. Well none the less after he said C7 I jumped on my bike and go down the road, we have orchards across the street and this poor dude attempted to pass someone in his hour old C7.

    I am ASSUMING and its really not fair but pretty sure he left the light, it opened up a little he hammered it to pass someone and washed out. Buddy said it was supercharged. I seen Corsa exhaust, Z06 tail lights, “I think” Z06 wheels, comp seats, A8, etc. so from what I can see there was money in the car. Look at the driver seat. That SOB is lucky to be alive. That damn tree branch which was about 6″ diameter punched through the car between him and the steering wheel. He was pretty banged up and walking pretty damn ginger. I told the tow truck driver to drop it off at my house in the shop around back for a couple hours. HAHA Be careful out there!

    Right away I was thinking the crash was caused by “excessive speed” as that’s the usual underlying factor in the majority of Corvette accidents. Check out the driver’s side front wheel how it was cracked in half. Then you see that tree branch that punched a hole in the driver’s side door and you realize just how lucky the driver was to come away from this crash still in one piece.

    So it looks like this is yet another accident we can chalk up to driver error as the C7 Corvette had more power than he had skills in controlling it. Be safe out there peeps and remember to always show a high horsepower sports car the respect (and fear) it deserves.

    Here’s another crazy story involving a 2020 Corvette coming on the heels of that C8 Corvette being dropped from a dealer’s two-post lift. This one comes from John Gibson who shared it to the C8 Corvette Owner’s page on Facebook. The new 2020 Corvette owner tells us how he was out for a drive on some “curvy roads” and as he crested a rise in the road, his Stingray was grazed by a motorcyclist coming in the opposite lane!

    Lucky for our Corvette owner, he had put the Performance Data Recorder into the mode that automatically records his drives whenever he starts up the car. As the motorcyclist lied to the responding police officer about who was over the yellow line, the PDR recording became the crucial piece of evidence for the accident report.

    As for the 2020 Corvette, it took a footpeg to the side-scoop boomerang so that will need to be replaced, but overall it looks like the car escaped any serious damage.

    It’s just a car. That’s what I keep repeating to myself. Got hit by a guy on a motorcycle today in the Vette. Was doing some fun top off motoring on some curvy roads, came over the top of a hill and two guys on motorcycles were riding on/over the centerline with half their bikes in my lane. I swerved away when I saw them. The first rider’s foot peg hit my “boomerang” side scoop and broke it.

    I about lost it because I swerved while cresting the hill. Slid sideways, but fortunately I just learned that the C8 handles well at the edge. Got her back under control and turned around to find the guys on the bikes, see if they were ok, and exchange insurance. Guys on the bikes left the scene. I kept going til I found them down the road at their house. Our stories didn’t mesh so we agreed to have them call the police.

    They lied and told the police that I was over the center line and hit them, and that they weren’t over the line! Both guys on the bikes told the officer that. So I asked the officer to go back to the scene and look at my skid marks and for debris that would show where I was at when they hit me.

    On the way back to the scene a message popped up on my screen that jogged my memory about an amazing C8 feature “Video Recording Started!” ? I had the automatic PDR video recording feature turned on, and had a video of the whole thing!

    I showed it to the officer and he said “yep, they both crossed the line. I’ll add that to the report.” So his insurance will have to pay to fix it. I hope the parts are available. In the end it’s not that bad, I know it’s just a car, and I’m glad that no one was hurt. If I hadn’t swerved I would have hit that biker’s outer frame tubes instead of his foot peg that just rotated around. He could have flown off the bike, hit the nearby trees and died. So thank God everyone was alright.
